With your secondary school diploma in your pocket, you are spoiled for choice: you can enter pretty much any profession or continue to school to obtain the general university entrance qualification. And the best part? We don't start preparing you for the world of work until the 9th grade. Thanks to our partnership with the Chamber of Crafts, which is conveniently located just around the corner, we start as early as the 8th grade.
Imagine you are on a journey of discovery where you discover your talents and interests. Ms. Feil from the employment agency comes to your class, gives you a crash course in career choice and shows you what to expect in the 9th grade. This is your chance to set the course for your future early on.
So, get ready for an exciting time at the Schönwerth-Realschule, where we will do everything we can to help you realize your dreams. Let's get started together!
Four vocational “basic building blocks”
especially for the 9th grade
Einführungsstunde
In this 45-minute session, our careers advisor Ms. Feil teaches the 9th grade students about the tasks they have to do when choosing a career, what they need to consider in the application process (e.g. important dates), etc.
Vorstellung BIZ
Our careers advisor Ms. Feil introduces each 9th grade class to the careers information materials from the BIZ (“Career Information Center” of the Employment Agency) directly at our school. After this introduction, the students can find out about all the careers on their own in their free time.
Career choice seminar
Almost 30 speakers from a wide range of training occupations come to the school and present them to our students – some with the support of trainees.
Training fair
Every 9th grade class visits this fair for half a morning accompanied by a teacher. The students can come into direct contact with training companies, obtain first-hand information about them, take part in various workshops and much more.
In addition to these four “basic building blocks”, our school also offers company visits and application training, which are organized individually by individual teachers.
In the subjects German, Business Administration or Economics and Law, and Information Technology, students learn everything they need to know about application letters and career orientation.
Students are explicitly encouraged to complete internships, which should generally be completed during the holidays. Students' own initiative is mandatory here. According to feedback from many companies and HR managers, a good performance during an internship can have a positive effect on a later application process.
Students also gain important experience for their professional future through voluntary work in the student company working group or compulsory participation in the project presentation in the 9th grade.
During the 9th and 10th grades, our students can receive individual advice from careers advisor Ms. Andrea Feil, who comes to our school every week. She offers them committed and professional support.
Our qualified advisory teachers StRin (RS) Krisztina Sprenger and BerR Christian Schön are the school’s contact persons for career advice.
From many conversations with HR managers, we know that in addition to good grades and possibly corresponding references, a realistic assessment of personal strengths and weaknesses, motivation, commitment and interest play a crucial role in the success of an application process.
